The Card Shuffle Mechanic — Why Griefer Is Different
Card Shuffle is Griefer's signature attack. Once per turn (more frequently in Phase 2), he scrambles your entire hand — your carefully-built combo is gone, and you draw a random hand on your next turn. This single mechanic invalidates every card-scaling and buff-stacking strategy in the game.
How to play around it: run a tight 5-6 card deck with high damage-per-card instead of card-scaling synergies. Cards like Order Strike (12 dmg + silence) and Power Slam (15 dmg) win the war of attrition even when shuffled, because they deal full damage on the turn they are drawn.
Item Snatch (Phase 2 only) is the second disrupt layer — it steals a random item from your inventory. Counter it by either: (1) hoarding a backup dynamite in your second item slot, or (2) running the Call: Monkey card, whose summon taunts and absorbs the steal.

Solo Strategy
Griefer's main mechanic is card disruption — he shuffles your hand each turn. Use Order Strike to lock him down, then burst during the opening window before disruption stacks. Don't commit to multi-turn setups. Phase 2 (below 50% HP) adds Item Snatch — keep at least one backup item slot.
Phase-by-Phase Breakdown
Phase 1 — Disruption Set-up (180 → 90 HP)
Griefer opens with Card Shuffle on turn 2, then alternates Grief Strike (12 dmg, parryable) and Card Shuffle. Your job in Phase 1 is to burst him down past 90 HP before he stacks two Card Shuffles. Lead with Power Slam (15 dmg) and Order Strike (12 dmg + silence). If you get a Silence proc, he cannot use Card Shuffle for 1 turn — capitalize with two free attack cards.
Phase 2 — Item Snatch + Double Shuffle (90 → 0 HP)
At 50% HP Griefer unlocks Item Snatch and starts chaining Card Shuffle every other turn. He will steal your best consumable (dynamite, brownie, or SP heal) if you do not taunt. Drop Call: Monkey on the first turn of Phase 2 — the summon eats the Item Snatch and Grief Strike, letting you land a free Power Slam or two dynamites for 24 chip damage. This is the cleanest skip-the-disruption window in the fight.
Hell Mode Tips — The r/blocktales Strategy
On Hell Mode, Griefer hits for roughly 18 dmg per Grief Strike and Card Shuffle triggers every turn. The community-favorite "no Venomshank" Hell Mode clear (posted by u/longtimeplayer, 12 minutes vs Komodo Dragon's 22) skips the Venomshank entirely and runs: 2x Dynamite + Call: Monkey + Order Strike + Power Slam + Shield Up + Heal Wave. Bring 32+ BP.
The trick: Shield Up is your panic button. If Griefer's about to chain Card Shuffle, pop Shield Up on the turn before — it absorbs the shuffle (it gets reset) and you keep your hand. Pair Shield Up with Order Strike to silence him on the same turn and skip 2 disrupt windows. Don't bother with item-based damage cards — Item Snatch will steal them.
The Venomshank Transformation — What Happens After
After you defeat Griefer, the story cutscene triggers: Griefer, in his final moments, impales himself on the Venomshank (the sword he stole from his brother Mayor Thaniyel) and mutates into Bubonic Plant. This is a story-mandated transformation — you cannot skip it. The fight against Bubonic Plant begins immediately and runs back-to-back, so plan your BP and heal economy as if you are fighting one extended 2-phase encounter.
